Depuis plusieurs semaines, les habitants de Bukavu peinent à se procurer des biens et services essentiels. En cause : une instabilité persistante du taux de change, alimentée par des spéculations qui creusent davantage le fossé entre la valeur du franc congolais et celle du dollar américain.

Une volatilité monétaire qui désoriente les consommateurs

Dans la capitale provinciale du Sud-Kivu, les taux de change varient d’un point à un autre : 2 500 francs congolais pour un dollar chez certains cambistes, 2 400 FC dans les magasins, voire 2 300 FC ailleurs. Cette disparité désoriente les consommateurs et fausse les prix sur le marché.
Selon le constat du reporter de Fact OGL ce lundi 13 octobre 2025, ce jeu spéculatif profite surtout à ceux qui détiennent leurs avoirs en devise étrangère, laissant le citoyen ordinaire impuissant face à la flambée du coût de la vie.

Des ménages fragilisés par la dépréciation du franc

Depuis la récente baisse du franc congolais, les affaires tournent au ralenti. De nombreux fonctionnaires et commerçants se disent perdants.
Une mère de famille rencontrée par Fact OGL, ayant requis l’anonymat, témoigne : « Je suis payée en dollars, mais pour faire mes courses, je dois convertir en francs congolais. Les prix ne bougent pas, et je perds à chaque transaction. »
Cette situation, selon elle, affecte le panier de la ménagère et la scolarisation des enfants. Dans certaines écoles, les percepteurs refusent désormais les paiements en dollars et exigent des francs congolais au taux de 3 000 FC — un paradoxe alors que le franc se raréfie sur le marché.

Une économie fragilisée par la spéculation et l’incertitude

Des observateurs attribuent cette dépréciation à l’intervention récente de la Banque Centrale du Congo, qui aurait absorbé une partie de la masse monétaire en circulation.
Mais au-delà de cette mesure, la baisse du taux de change découlerait surtout d’une faible demande pour le franc congolais et d’une offre excédentaire sur le marché des changes — une situation amplifiée par l’inflation, l’instabilité politique et la spéculation des investisseurs.

Appel à une action urgente des autorités

Face à cette spirale économique, plusieurs habitants appellent les autorités à s’impliquer davantage pour stabiliser le marché.
« La solution ne viendra pas du chaos, mais d’une action économique concertée », estime un commerçant du marché Beach Muhanzi.
En République démocratique du Congo, le franc congolais continue de perdre de la valeur face au dollar américain, accentuant les inégalités et la précarité au sein des foyers.
