Le président rwandais Paul Kagame et son homologue mozambicain Daniel Chapo, en visite au Rwanda, ont renouvelé leur engagement en faveur de la coopération entre leurs pays respectifs après la signature d’accords clés dans les domaines de la paix et de la sécurité ainsi que dans le commerce.
Il s’agit notamment d’un protocole d’accord entre le Rwanda Development Board (RDB) et l’Agence de promotion des investissements et des exportations du Mozambique, ainsi que d’un accord sur le statut des forces (SOFA) relatif au soutien à la lutte contre le terrorisme au Mozambique.
Avant cette signature, les deux présidents ont eu un tête-à-tête au cours duquel ils ont discuté des principaux domaines de coopération.
« Nous disposons déjà de plusieurs cadres de coopération. La priorité est désormais de mettre en œuvre efficacement ces cadres et accords-cadres, et c’est sur cela que nos équipes se concentreront », a déclaré Paul Kagame, qui a souligné que « des progrès notables étaient réalisés. »

Paul Kagame a également déclaré que l’extrémisme violent sur le continent constituait une menace croissante pour les populations et les gouvernements : « En tant qu’Africains, nous devons nous approprier ce problème et l’affronter comme un seul continent. Confier cette responsabilité à des acteurs extérieurs ne contribuera pas à bâtir une paix ou un développement durables », a-t-il ajouté.
De son côté, le président mozambicain a salué le travail des troupes rwandaises déployées à Cabo Delgado et le soutien du Rwanda à la paix dans la région : « Grâce à cette coopération, la paix est revenue dans la région, malgré des attaques sporadiques », a déclaré Daniel Chapo, qui a invité à cette occasion le président Kagame à se rendre au Mozambique.
Pour rappel, depuis mi-2021, les forces armées rwandaises et mozambicaines collaborent dans la lutte contre les insurgés djihadistes dans la province mozambicaine de Cabo Delgado.
