Une publication virale relayée sur Facebook par la page « Le monde d’actualité » affirme que le président de la République démocratique du Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, aurait déployé 15 000 mercenaires colombiens à l’est du pays pour combattre le mouvement rebelle M23. Le post est illustré par la photo d’un soldat lourdement armé, censé représenter l’un de ces mercenaires.
Après vérification, cette information est fausse et trompeuse.
L’origine réelle de la photo
La photo utilisée dans la publication circule depuis plusieurs mois dans les médias colombiens et internationaux. Elle montre en réalité Wilmer Martínez Vásquez, un volontaire colombien engagé dans la guerre en Ukraine.
Selon un article de Caracol Radio daté du 22 juin 2024, Wilmer Martínez Vásquez, originaire de Bucaramanga (Colombie), a perdu la vie en février 2024 lors d’un bombardement en Ukraine. Sa famille, n’ayant pas pu rapatrier son corps, a organisé des activités de collecte de fonds pour couvrir les frais de rapatriement (source : Caracol Radio).
Aucune preuve de mercenaires colombiens en RDC
Jusqu’à présent, aucune source officielle – ni du gouvernement congolais, ni des forces de défense, ni des médias internationaux crédibles – n’a confirmé l’existence ou l’arrivée de 15 000 mercenaires colombiens dans l’est de la RDC.
Cette affirmation est donc une manipulation de l’information, utilisant une image sortie de son contexte pour faire croire à une intervention étrangère massive.
